Doesn't stand a chance in this dive
A murky backwater where Calm and Content
Have to fight for breathing-room
Against seasoned pros like Greed and Lust
Ruthless predators like Hunger
Manic Fears and criminal Delusions
Even Love has a con --
The cruelest of all --
Smiling and flirting
Til the whole damm crowd

Hmmm. . . . again, the end nails it. But what if 'unspoken promises / She will never keep" became "promises / she'll never keep"?
Don't know if it's tighter, but "unspoken" seems slow and even a little unnecessary.
But what do I know?
Actually, you know way more than me about these things.
It's a good suggestion and I think you're right (for my own sanity, I consider these in somewhat perpetual draft form online). I may try to come up with a better word there to try and underscore the concept of deception...
also, I'm still not happy with the title, which seems pretty cheesy, frankly
