I found a lucky penny
In the street, there, face side up
I dropped it in my pocket
Then I strode off with a strut
As I walked to work that morning
First, the rain began to pour
I recalled then, how unnerving,
My umbrella by the door
I arrived to work an hour late --
The bus had stalled four times
At lunch, the waiter spilled my dish
My lap caught it just fine
My wife called in the afternoon
Said she was leaving me
My boss fired me at 5 o'clock
And now I am quite free
Of everything except this coin
Which brought me, oh, such luck
Just think how if I'd let it lie
My day would really suck.
