All week I plotted what there was to say
To tell the poet how her work inspired
Such clever phrases, such inspired word-play
To demonstrate my own linguistic fire
I'd wow her with a clever twist on Frost
Compare her style to Parker or Millay
A clause from Simic easily I'd toss
Out, she'd casually drop a line by Shelley
Her reading left me in a happy daze
Her mouth-harp playing, soulful, made me daft
I waited afterwards to offer praise
And mustered only "I admire your craft."
